Project Overview

This Category 2 Heritage listed building, originally known as the John Chambers & Son building, accommodated the local Department of Conservation office until 2017. After the Department of Conservation terminated their lease, the challenge was to convert the former warehouse into an inner-city boutique hotel.

A multiple award winner at local and national levels, The Chamberson is a beautifully renovated 21-apartment styled boutique hotel. The contemporary interior makes the most of the original features, with spacious, light-filled, apartment style rooms.

The large windows offer a range of views across the city. The redevelopment work was undertaken on every floor of this five storey building, but concentrated mainly on converting the top three floors to hotel use. Key features include exposed brick walls, restored original stained-glass windows and designer kitchens.
