Dunedin Physio Pool Feasibility Study

Dunedin Physio Pool Feasibility Study

Client

Otago Therapeutic Pool Trust

Location

Dunedin

Project Overview

Feldspar was contracted by the Otago Therapeutic Pool Trust to deliver a detailed feasibility study exploring the future of the historic Dunedin Physio Pool, which has served the community since 1946 but was closed in May 2021 due to deteriorated infrastructure. Their scope involved assessing whether to refurbish the existing heritage-protected facility or to explore alternative sites for building a new hydrotherapy pool, considering demand, condition, costs, strategic fit, delivery options, and long-term financial viability. The work included conducting site surveys, heritage and accessibility assessments, engineering evaluations, and preparing rough-order costings for both refurbishment and new-build scenarios. Feldspar also led stakeholder engagement, gathering input from the Southern DHB, Dunedin City Council, user groups, and the wider community to ensure the feasibility study reflected broad needs and priorities. The final deliverable was a comprehensive feasibility report providing a clear estimated costed options to deliver a hydrotherapy service to the Dunedin community.
